As darkness fell upon the land and the cold of night prevailed
I followed signs of a lunar path and the future was unveiled

And I heard that lonesome whippoorwill

As I came upon a sacred land the winds began to howl
A light rose up from the hallowed earth and I saw the great horned owl

Today out in the woods
As I heard the sound of a future voice make a pained and lonesome cry
I fell to me knees and closed my eyes and I called out to the sky

Who is this lonesome creature that is calling out to me

I just stood there in amazement as that Indian spoke to me

He taught me a lonesome melody and it came from a long-gone time

I walked into an antique store and saw an Indian staring at me
I looked into his wooden eyes and I said ‘who could this be?’
